Corinne Gallant, 96, of Auberge du Soleil, Dieppe, passed away on Tuesday, July 24th, 2018, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Center, Moncton.
Born in Moncton, NB, she was the daughter of the late Pierre and the late Elizabeth (née: Hebert) Gallant.
Corinne was a member of the sisters of Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Cœur for 26 years before becoming a layperson in 1970.
She had for decades done exceptional work advocating for women and was the president of the first national organization of feminist researchers, the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women.
One of the first Acadian women to earn a doctorate, she had a lengthy career as a professor of philosophy at the Université de Moncton.
Corinne had been honoured with several awards, most notably the Order of Canada in 1989, the Governor General’s Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case and the Order of Moncton in 2012 in addition to the New Brunswick Human Rights Award in 2014.
She is survived by two sisters: Leona McDermott of Dieppe and Rita (late Hector) Fontaine of Moncton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents; she was predeceased by two sisters: Dorina (Louis) Richard and Lillianne (Gerard) Goguen.
At her request no visitation.
A Celebration of the Life of Corinne will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home Chapel, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe (857-1901) on Saturday, July 28th, 2018 at 10 am.
Interment in Notre-Dame du Calvaire Cemetery, Dieppe.
