Joseph Gautreau, 96, of Veterans’ Health Center, Moncton, passed away on Tuesday, January 1st, 2019 at his residence.
Born in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late Eloi and the late Marguerite (née: Lirette) Gautreau.
Prior to retirement, Mr. Gautreau served with the Canadian Army for 25 years, having been stationed in Chilliwack, BC, Whitehorse, YT and Gagetown, NB. He was a veteran of WWII, having parachuted into Normandie during the D-Day invasion. He also served during the Korean War. Joseph was a member of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion as well as: Royal Canadian Engineer, Dieppe Veterans and the Korean War Vets Associations and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 6. He was an avid bowler; enjoyed playing darts and was a member of the Club d’Age d’Or de Dieppe and Sainte-Thérèse Parish.
He is survived by one daughter, Gisèle (Micheal) Murray of Moncton; four sons: Terry (Lucille) of Moncton, Ron (Sharon) of Fredericton, Jim (Barb) and Micheal, both of Moncton; one sister, Gloria of Pheonix, AZ; one brother, Claude (Pat) of Mississauga, ON; three step-children; special friend, Jeannine Daigle; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his 1st wife, Exelda (née: LeBlanc) in 1975; his 2nd wife, Marie (née: LeBlanc) in 2011; one daughter, Bernice; one son, Bob; two sisters: Marguerite and Dolores and also by one brother, René.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, (857-1901) on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm ONLY.
A legion service will be held at 1:45 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Sainte-Therese Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 at 10:30 am.
Interment in Notre-Dame-du-Calvaire Cemetery, Dieppe.
